Spurred by the desire to develop a material vocabulary, I work through multiple iterations of an initial thought. In modern times, the materials I find most interesting have become labeled as “minor arts” and therefore excluded from use in “fine art” seemingly, because of their connection to the domestic. I’m interested in the repetition of various line qualities, creating an unguilting surface. It is my intention to create a captivating surface through the exploration of materials that challenges the invalidation of craft materials in fine art.

A central arc that continues to surface in my work is the nature of duality in human experience. This duality seems to permeate a variety of social groups including the art world and is a component of the divide between craft and fine arts. I strive for the viewer to experience the duality of softness and strength I find central to my identity as a woman through the materials traditionally allocated to women.
